Australian Friends of Reichman University (AFRU) was recently launched in Melbourne by federal chair Albert Dadon, paving the way for direct and ongoing mutually beneficial ties between Australians and Israel’s first private, not-for-profit university.

Established in 1994 as the Interdisciplinary Centre Herzliya, Reichman University today has 11 schools, 32 laboratories and research institutes, 32,000 alumni and a current student population of 8400.

About 2500 of those are international students from 90 countries, including Australia, enrolled in full-degree programs offered in English.

“Reichman University stands as a beacon of leadership, innovation, and Zionist ideals, shaping Israel’s future through academic excellence and social responsibility,” Dadon said.

“We are building a vibrant community that fosters support, strengthens collaborations, and creates new opportunities between Australia and Israel.”

AFRU’s development director Michael Manhaim describes Reichman as “where cutting-edge technology and innovation meet interdisciplinary excellence, from entrepreneurship to counter-terrorism and diplomacy”.

The Scojen Institute for Synthetic Biology was recently opened and the Dina Recanati School of Medicine and the Daniel Jusidman Conference Centre will soon be launched.

“We’re excited to lead collaborative research across AI, medicine, computer science, bioinformatics and related fields, and we’ve embraced interdisciplinary collaboration across the sciences,” said a Reichman University spokesperson.
