CRICKET

Greenberg welcomed in Britain

WITHIN a couple of hours after arriving at Heathrow Airport on April 11, Sydney 19-year-old Jake Greenberg created a very good first impression at his first overseas-based club, Cowdrey, located in Kent.

The talented teen – who played second and third grade cricket for University of NSW last summer – promptly met its director of cricket, before heading straight to the nets for batting practice.

Then on April 16, he scored 50 in a fine debut for Cowdrey in their men’s first grade pre-season match against Rye.

Greenberg will play a full English summer for Cowdrey, and also be a junior team coach and mentor.

SWIMMING

Coming of age at nationals

MELBOURNE’S Tali Gant and Sydney’s Elodie Jewell represented Surrey Park and Randwick Swim Clubs respectively, at the 2022 Swimming Australia Long Course Age Championships in Adelaide last week.

Gant swam in three 15 girls’ events. Her best result was 22nd out of 60 in the 200m individual medley, clocking 2:29.99.

Jewell, who is also a Maccabi member, came 28th in the 14 girls’ 200 backstroke.

FUTSAL

Toni to tour Thailand

In an exciting first step towards a full international return, a squad of 13 top women’s players from five Australian futsal clubs has been selected, and given the green light by Football Australia, to compete in the NSDF Women’s Futsal Tournament in Thailand from April 20-26.

The squad features four Hakoah Futsal Club women’s members, including Jewish player Toni Sharp.

The team will get to play the national teams of Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar, plus a match against an ‘All Star’ team.
