CANOE SLALOM
Fox earns top award

OLYMPIC gold medallist, Sydney’s Jessica Fox, added the Paddle Australia 2022 Athlete of the Year Award to her trophy cabinet last weekend.
In 2022, Fox won five World Cup golds, three World Championship medals (one gold, two silver), and the women’s single kayak World Cup title.
“It is an honour to win this award,” she said. “I had some ups and downs . . . but I was really happy with my performances.
“It’s also left me hungry to improve.”
Her mum and coach of Australia’s canoe slalom team, Myriam, was named a joint winner of Coach of the Year.

Moriah makes CDSSA semis

MAZAL tov to Moriah College’s high school basketball teams that went deep in the 2022 CDSSA Basketball Championships late last month.

Their girls’ and boys’ teams both made it as far as the semi-finals, which is a very impressive result, especially when they were fielding some of the youngest squads in the competition.

Teens tackle NSW 3000m title

THE 2022 NSW 3000m running championships were held on the upgraded track at E.S Marks Field on October 29, and featured several Jewish teenagers.

All races had entry lists of 22 athletes.

Results included Randwick-Botany Harriers runner Shira Gottlieb placing ninth in the women’s ‘F’ race, clocking 11:38.49.

Brody Elbourne, also representing Randwick-Botany, came 18th in the men’s ‘D’ race, in 9:39.64.

And in the men’s ‘E’ race, Matthew Radvin (Randwick-Botany) came 20th in 9:32.36, and Joel Solomon (UTS Norths) placed 21st in 9:41.37.

 

TENPIN BOWLING

A round for applause

THERE were impressive performances in round 11 of season two of Maccabi NSW Tenpin Bowling Club’s Monday night competition in Mascot.

Natai Hanouka from The Mighty Underdogs scored 223 in one of his games.

Lilik Passman, from team Manis Manis, bowled her highest game score of 189.

And Ring of Fire’s Rosie Costi was the bowler of the round, with game scores of 169, 156, and 150 for a series of 475, which was 109 pins above her average.

Team Mean Machine (Myer Zamek and Mark Katz) remain on top of the 18-team ladder on 75 points, The Swannies (Justin Kennedy and Brian Doobov) are second on 69, and Too Hot to Handle (Howard Baram and Ronnie Lang) are third on 64.

 

MACCABI ALL ABILITIES

Learn to surf at Bondi

ANOTHER great summer is coming up at Bondi Beach for the Surf’s Up program, offered by Maccabi NSW All Abilities and Let’s Go Surfing.

Community members who have a disability can learn to surf with trained instructors, enjoy a barbecue lunch, and meet new people.

Sessions are scheduled for November 20, December 18, January 29, February 26, and March 19.

Meanwhile, young Maccabi NSW All Abilities Program surfer Toby Galper appeared in a photo shoot at Bondi for an upcoming Accessible Tourism Australia campaign that will promote Australia as a travel destination for people with disabilities, their families and friends.
