Opposition leader Angus Taylor has vowed to stand by Australia’s Jewish community, declaring antisemitism a national issue, during a visit to the firebombed Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne.

Taylor met with Adass community leaders to discuss their plans to rebuild on the site of the synagogue, which was firebombed in December 2024 in one of the most shocking antisemitic attacks in Australian history.

Speaking exclusively to the AJN during the visit, Taylor said protecting the Australian way of life is one of his core priorities, and that the Jewish community embodies the values that has made the country great.

“You are great Australians, and we need to make sure that you can enjoy the Australia and be part of the Australia that I grew up in, and that the threats and the terrorism that we’ve seen in recent times comes to an end and is never repeated,” he said.

Taylor said the firebombing and broader rise in antisemitism were not solely a Jewish community concern.
