The third last round of the Mercantile Cricket Association season last Sunday saw Maccabi-AJAX’s First XI lose to Kingston United, but they still lead the Sunday A grade ladder by one win (4 points).

They restricted their opponents to 158, with brilliant bowling by Josh Rotstein (4/36) and Lior Meyerowitz (3/28), but their batters struggled in the chase, and were all out for 126.

Although out of finals contention in B grade, the club’s Second XI enjoyed a 37-run win over the CUCC Kings.

Returning from a trip to Israel just three days before the match, Amir Meyerowitz starred with the bat, top-scoring with 95, alongside Brett Jacobs (43), helping Maccabi reach 185.

In reply, the Kings were dismissed for 148, and the star was

B grade debutant Hayden Goldberg, who is just 13, and took a massive 5 wickets for 26 runs.

And in C Grade, a 4-wicket win to Maccabi-AJAX over Monash University elevated them to 5th spot, keeping their finals hopes alive.
