Term two grand final glory

It was an exciting finals weekend for Maccabi NSW Basketball in the Easts Basketball League term two grand finals, with nine of the club’s junior teams competing across four age groups and eight divisions.

Four of the Maccabi teams emerged as championship winners.

The U12 Celtics were the first team to secure a title last Sunday, impressing in the U12 boys’ top division decider.

 

After finishing first on the ladder, the team, coached by Bill Hill, fought hard all game to outlast their Mambas opponents 28-22.

This was the Celtics’ second consecutive title, having defeated the same opponent in the term one grand final.

The U12 Jazz girls’ team qualified for the grand final, after finishing their regular season undefeated.

The Jazz enjoyed a comfortable 22-9 victory over the Inner City Cheetahs to cap off a fantastic season in division one.

Maccabi’s U14 Lynx, coached by Jordan Kimmel, followed suit with a magnificent performance to claim the U14 girls’ title, cruising to a 32-12 grand final win and a second consecutive trophy.

The Maccabi Raptors and Titans faced off against one another for the U14 boys’ title.

After finishing first and second on the ladder, it was bound to be an intense game that swung throughout each half, and it turned out to be.

Ultimately, it was the Raptors who came away with a narrow 31-28 victory, in an exciting finish for onlooking fans.

“It’s great to see so many younger members from the community enjoying basketball and continuing to develop.”
