Following a sold-out first pop-up in 2021, The Trusty Toastie café by Access Inc was back in action earlier this month for two Sundays of celebrating ability in our community.

Held at the DC Bricker Pavillion at Princes Park in Caulfield, this year’s pop-up had options for indoor dining, outdoor picnic and take-away as well as entertainment by local singer-songwriter Joshua Batten and the Access Tunes and Beats crew.

For the first time, The Trusty Toastie was licenced, serving wine and cider from noon to showcase the skills that participants had gained in Access’ new Responsible Service of Alcohol course.

Access Inc CEO Sharon Malecki said The Trusty Toastie was once again “a huge success in terms of sales outcome and volume of customers,” however she emphasised that it is about much more than this.

“Each sale is an opportunity for enjoyment, connection, skill-building and advocacy,” she told The AJN.

“Each sponsor is about demonstrating that investment in disability is valued by philanthropists, businesses and government.

“Each participant involved takes a step closer to employment, better employment, independence or whatever path they are forging.”

The Trusty Toastie is the only toastie café committed to offering training opportunities for people with disabilities.

Keep an eye out for future pop-ups by The Trusty Toastie!
