ATHLETICS

Vic athletics championships end on a high

More medals flowed for Maccabi and other Jewish athletes in part two of the Victorian Track and Field Championships last weekend.

Jemima Montag set a new Victorian record of 20:17.35 to win gold in the women’s 5km race walk.

Ori Drabkin won 2 golds (200m and 800m) and a silver (long jump) in U20 men’s para events. In the 800m, he nailed a PB of 2:42.81, breaking an Australian record.

Ben Blecher won bronze in the 200m, to add to his bronze the week before in the 400m.

Shanie Landen clocked 2:06.93 to place 7th in the women’s 800m final, and Glenhuntly rep Ethan Weiss got a PB of 5.91m to come 6th in the U17 boys’ long jump.

SWIMMING

Maccabi-AJAX girls go great

The newly reformed Maccabi-AJAX Swimming Club was well represented by its two competitive swimmers, Peri Alfranco and Hanna Goldberg, at meets last weekend.

Goldberg placed in the top 10 in the 50 butterfly (6th), backstroke (7th), breaststroke (7th) and free (9th) at the Metro East All-Juniors trials, while at the EDA long course meet, Alfranco nailed PBs in the girls’ 200 individual medley, 100 free and 50 free.

 

TABLE TENNIS

Maccabi off to a flyer in pennant

Maccabi Table Tennis Club started the new MSAC pennant season well last week.

In Division 1, the Maccabi Heat team of Paul Bronstein, Herman Pekel and Jonas Torstensson beat Albert Park 6-3. Pekel was their best player on the night, winning all 3 matches.

Jack Cyngler, Mark Freedman and Yori Bargil of the Maccabi Treehuggers thrashed St Kilda 7-2 in Division 2, while in Division 3, the Maccabi Nets (Mark Levin, Rohan Woolf and Ilan Freedman) trounced St Kilda 8-1.
