Twins follow their acting dreams

TWINS Gil and Oren Ben-Moshe have always followed their acting dreams together and play the same character in a new film.

TWINS Gil and Oren Ben-Moshe have always followed their acting dreams together.

It is apt then that they both play the same character in the new short film, The Pines, which deals with the theme of following one’s dreams.

Gil Ben-Moshe describes the film as a fantasy.

The brothers, who attended Moriah College and live in Sydney, play the main character, Mark who after “another failed audition” decides to give up on an acting career and take a job at his girlfriend’s father’s shoe factory.

Mark enters his basement to pack away his scripts and acting books and is transported into the mythical place “the pines”

“If you didn’t follow your dream — you never achieved it, you gave up, everyone gets locked up in this basement,” Ben Moshe says.

“And now he’s trapped in this place until he decides no, I’m going to chase this, I’m going to follow my dream again and then everything happens from there.”

The story of how the Ben-Moshes came to be involved in The Pines
is an intriguing one.

Writer/director Brett D’Souza needed identical twins and searched for “identical twin actors” in Google. The search brought up an AJN
article on Gil and Oren from July 2009.

Reading that the brothers were working on their own screenplay that dealt with following dreams he auditioned them via Skype and subsequently offered them the role.

“I have the Jewish News to thank for that,” laughs Ben-Moshe.

There will be a free private screening of The Pines
on Wednesday, August 11 at the Chauvel cinema in Paddington.

It will be the only opportunity to see the film before it is entered into film festivals around the world.

“We’d like the entire Jewish community to come along,” Ben-Moshe says.

In the meantime, the brothers are continuing to chase their own dreams with the screenplay they have written.

“Hopefully within three weeks something will happen, there’ll be an announcement.”
