UIA and Australian Jewish Funders (AJF) have announced the launch of their annual Philanthropy Fellowship.

The 2023 fellowship aims to cultivate philanthropic leadership by harnessing the ambition, aspiration and passion of emerging trailblazers with a shared vision of a thriving Jewish community.

Running from July 18 to August 22, it builds on the success of previous fellowships and a network of 30 alumni nationwide. Topics explored during the fellowship include philanthropic trends, effective legal structures, collective giving, and community building, equipping participants with the tools and strategies to utilise their expertise and resources for meaningful causes. Ideal candidates, aged between 25 and 40, are expected to dedicate themselves to worthwhile causes.

Recognising the impending retirement or departure of 75-90 per cent of senior Jewish community leaders, as indicated by a recent North American study, the Australian community faces a similar trend. Developing the next generation of leaders is understood to be crucial for succession planning and ensuring continuity.

The fellowship addresses this need by offering participants access to a network of Australian and international Jewish leaders in philanthropy, providing valuable insights into new tools, approaches, learnings and collaborations that promote effective philanthropy.

The program concludes with a “night of giving”, where participants collectively decide on a project to support. UIA Victoria CEO Jeff Feldman expressed pride in pioneering this program alongside the AJF.

He told The AJN, “The fellowship provides nascent philanthropists a unique opportunity to develop their understanding of charitable organisations and trends in philanthropic thought.”
