The Sydney community rallied to support Magen David Adom (MDA) at an event aimed at procuring urgently needed lifesaving medicycles last Wednesday, August 2.

The event was a success, with the generosity of donors making a significant impact on MDA’s emergency medical response capability.

Australian Friends of MDA president Tony Ziegler thanked donors, highlighting MDA’s lifesaving role in emergencies, natural disasters, medical and military crises.

Medicycles equipped with cutting-edge medical equipment, enable rapid assistance he said, especially in congested urban or hard-to-reach areas. Ziegler asked for ongoing community support to expand the fleet of these lifesaving vehicles.

The event featured Ilan Zimmerman’s personal account of being saved by MDA after suffering a cardiac arrest at last year’s Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Australian Friends of MDA patron Bob Magid and Ruth Magid (publishers of The AJN) recounted their recent visit to MDA’s new Marcus National Blood Bank in Ramle, a vital hub ensuring Israel’s blood supply.

Noted author Diane Armstrong also addressed the audience, giving a fascinating insight into her research in preparation for her latest novel The Wild Date Palm.

The event was emceed by comedian Vince Sorrenti.
