THE first face-to-face Maccabi post-lockdown events in Melbourne and Sydney sprung into action last month in and around Caulfield Park, and at Centennial Park respectively, for Maccabi Life’s Memory Walk.

Individuals and groups gathered in the sunshine, grabbed a coffee, and began walking or jogging to raise funds for Dementia Australia.

More than $4000 has been raised so far from the Melbourne event, and almost $1000 from the Sydney event.

Both events were held on October 24.

Maccabi Life’s program manager Bindy Houghton described the event in Melbourne as a great success.

“We’re so proud of everyone who took part in support of Dementia Australia, raising funds and awareness for this important causeĀ of helping to beat dementia, which impacts 472,000 Australians and their families,” she said.

“When we handed out showbags, it was inspiring to see how happy and keen people were to help out.”

Maccabi NSW president Lauren Ehrlich spoke at the Sydney event of her own personal experience with a family member who has dementia, and the important work Dementia Australia does for so many families in the community.

Nicole Katz from Maccabi Life NSW thanked all who participated and donated, adding, “We are hoping that next year, we’ll be able to partner with more members of the community to join in a fabulous day out”.
