Waverley Council launches antisemitism strategy
Australia's first model framework available to all councils
Waverley Council has launched Australia’s first Model Antisemitism Strategy, providing a template for councils nationwide to combat antisemitism in their local communities.
Mayor Will Nemesh unveiled the landmark initiative on day two of the Australian Mayors Summit Against Antisemitism on the Gold Coast, announcing it had gone live on Waverley Council’s website at 9am that morning.
“This Model allows councils everywhere to take meaningful, locally relevant action,” Mayor Nemesh said.
“Waverley is proud to be launching this initiative to fight hate and build stronger, more cohesive communities.”
The strategy draws from Waverley Council’s comprehensive antisemitism framework, developed in close consultation with Jewish community representatives and peak bodies, and includes practical guidance for councils developing locally relevant strategies.
