We stand with Israel
A message from The Australian Jewish News.
As the scale and barbarism of the past two days unfolds and we witness Israelis being massacred in the hundreds, we share a collective pain, anger and disbelief at what is unfolding. Let us be clear: Hamas is no different to ISIS. Their brutality and savagery is one and the same.
The scenes we are witnessing bring back the horrific images of ISIS’s savage campaign across parts of the Middle East which we watched in disgust a few years ago. The scenes of young people being executed in their hundreds, the scenes of children being kidnapped and tortured by their captives, of elderly being taken hostage and dragged into Gaza, these are scenes we will never forget.
The days and weeks to come will be unprecedented and no doubt painful, not least because the world’s media will soon turn their short-lived sympathy for Israel into a torrent of criticism and slander. As Australian Jews we must stand proudly and unwaveringly alongside our Israeli brothers and sisters, and with resolve we must ignore the inevitable lies and misrepresentation of Israel, which we will no doubt see in the coming days.
Our focus must be on doing anything and everything we can to demonstrate our support for Israel and its embattled citizens. The Australian Jewish News will be providing accurate and timely information via our Instagram and Facebook pages and we ask the community to join the global community in any way they can in supporting Israel. We will publish ways that you can help and we will keep you updated on the latest news.
From all of us at The Australian Jewish News we send our heartfelt condolences to those families who are experiencing the unimaginable and we pray that peace will be restored to Israel as soon as possible.
