NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Darren Bark, Rabbi Dr Ben Elton and Rabbi Cantor George Mordecai recently joined NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Health Minister Brad Hazzard at the Olympic Park Vaccination Hub to outline the importance of getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

“I encourage all who are eligible to get a vaccination as soon as possible,” Bark said.

“It’s quick, easy and effective and provides greater peace of mind.

“The recent cases in Victoria are a reminder to us all that we need to take steps to protect ourselves, our family and our community.”

Rabbi Elton, who got his jab on the day, said it’s incredibly important “that everyone who can gets vaccinated as soon as possible”.

“It’s safe and it’s the only way we will all stay healthy, and be able to open up to the rest of the world,” he said.

The Sydney Beth Din (SBD) said it joins other rabbinic leaders around the world in encouraging vaccination.

“As with all vaccines, there may be acknowledged risks associated with any of the COVID-19 vaccines; however, halachically the benefit of being vaccinated far outweighs the risks,” the SBD said.

“The members of the Beth Din have either already received their vaccinations or will be receiving them in the near future.”

The Premier said more than a million COVID-19 vaccines have now been administered across NSW.

“It is critical to vaccinate our citizens as quickly and as safely as possible,” Berejiklian said.

Hazzard added, “Complacency can kill. If and when an outbreak occurs in NSW, the rush to get vaccinated will be great, so as soon as you are eligible we urge you to get vaccinated.”
