‘Wear clothing that it’s easy to pee in’

The Haim sisters – Este, Danielle and Alana – will soon be back in Australia, headlining Laneway Festival around the country. The country holds a special place in the Jewish trio’s hearts, with the finishing touches of their debut album Days are Gone being done in a Sydney studio while they were here on tour.
Since releasing their first singles in 2012, the band has sold hundreds of thousands of albums, floored critics, toured the world with good friend Taylor Swift and become fashion icons of sorts.
Their sound, which blends confident ’70s and ’80s pop with funky guitar lines and sleek contemporary beats, is irresistible. One could argue that they are the coolest Jews on the planet right now, occupying a coveted space between the indie music world and the realm of international megastars.
Other than their music, the sisters have worked on feature films – Alana starred in Licorice Pizza – and as music consultants on television series – Este enjoyed an unofficial title of “vibe conductor” but was officially credited as music consultant on The White Lotus.
But this year’s Laneway shows will be the first time Australian audiences will be able to enjoy their latest album – Women in Music Part III – live, which is how it’s supposed to be experienced. Their advice for festival goers? Wear wellies (gumboots), they told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“Just wear clothing that it’s easy to pee in,” Alana added. “When I was younger, I used to go to festivals and have all these crazy outfits that were so uncomfortable. Now at 31, you will find me in my PJs walking around the festival.”With Times of Israel
