Emmy Monash Aged Care was chosen to host a tour last week for Anika Wells, the Federal Minister for Aged Care, as the only aged care facility in Victoria to meet the minister’s requirements for the visit. She attended the facility with federal member for Macnamara Josh Burns.

Wells flew down from Queensland for this visit with a focus on highlighting the need for 24/7 registered nurses in aged care.

Emmy Monash was chosen as not only a facility that already has this in place, but also boasts an impeccable record of compliance.

“It was an honour to be the only aged care facility in Victoria to meet the requirements of the minister’s visit,” said CEO of Emmy Monash Tanya Abramzon.

“Aside from our impeccable compliance records the minister congratulated us on having 24/7 nursing in place for over 12 years,” Abramzon added.

She continued, “The minister’s visit is not just an achievement for Emmy but the entire Melbourne Jewish community who support us.”

While onsite, Wells took the opportunity to film an announcement, declaring that all aged care facilities should have 24/7 nursing.

The minister also had the opportunity to meet with Monica Arango, Emmy’s clinical care manager and infection control lead, to speak about the impact COVID has had on aged care and the importance on focusing on staff well-being. Monica also shared Emmy Monash’s nursing ratios with the minister.

In a post shared to Facebook Wells said, “I saw the amazing work being done here by the nurses at Emmy,” adding that every aged care home “should look like this, every aged care home should have nursing care around the clock just like they do here and have done so for 12 years”.

“Every resident, in every aged care facility across the country deserves this level of care. As your Minister for Aged Care that is the plan I am implementing and that the Albanese Labor government is delivering.”

In a letter addressed to family and friends of Emmy Monash, president of Emmy Monash Rod Nirens congratulated the entire Emmy team “who work hard every day, ensuring the highest level of care is maintained for our residents. It is clear that Emmy sets the benchmark for not only adhering to the Aged Care Quality Standards but exceeding them”.

He concluded the letter by saying, “Today is a proud day for our Emmy family.”
