Three days before the start of this year’s Aussie Rules season AJAX wasn’t going to be able to field an under-16 football team, and now they are premiers.

The team defeated Waverley Park 14.12 (96) to 6.11 (47) in a dominant and impressive performance on Sunday afternoon to finish an amazing season.

“Fairytales really do come true,” team manager Tony Beaconsfield said after the match.

“We outplayed and outscored Waverley in every quarter.

“This doesn’t happen unless everyone steps up a notch.”

He said it was great to see all players step up and make a significant contribution.

“They put their heads down and their bodies on the line and were rewarded with a well-deserved premiership.”

AJAX kicked the first few goals of the match and led by 19 points at quarter-time.

The game was tighter in the second quarter and the gap was 18 point at half-time, but after the break the game opened up.

The AJAX players piled on the pressure and kicked five third-quarter goals while only conceding one to put the game out of reach for Waverley Park.

The team maintained its lead in the last quarter and won the match by 49 points in a stunning performance.

Michael Lazar kicked three goals while Blake Kagen, Noah Rosham and Brodi Velleman all kicked two goals.

Jake Liberman, Jordan Meltzer, Kobe Shnider, Dean Spilkin and Ward Williams, who dominated the half-back flank, all scored one goal.
