Wolli Creek playground dedicated to Matilda Bee
The family chose a park where they had spent happy times together
Bayside Council has dedicated the playground at Cahill Park in Wolli Creek to the memory of Matilda Bee, the 10-year-old killed in the Bondi Beach terror attack in December.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled at a ceremony last Saturday attended by Matilda’s family and friends, council representatives and members of the state government.
The council consulted Matilda’s family, who said they had spent many happy times together at the playground and welcomed the proposal to dedicate the space in her honour.
Matilda’s mother Valentyna Poltavchenko wrote on social media, “We are deeply grateful to the Bayside Council for the dedication of the Matilda Bee Memorial Playground.
“This was a place of pure joy for Matilda, and we will forever cherish the wonderful memories made here. It is a beautiful tribute to how we wish her to be remembered. We were so pleased to see our friends and family who came to share this moment with us!”
