IT’S official. Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes is Jewish. At least halachically so.
Performing at the “Symphony for the Soul” concert at Sydney’s Central Synagogue on Thursday night, the former ‘Cold Chisel’ front man talked about asking his mother why he was given a Magen David when he was 18.
She told him that it had been passed through the family for several generations by the women of his family.
It was a proud Barnes who then told the 1600 people in attendance that he had done a bit of research, and that because of the Jewish matrilineal laws he too could claim to be Jewish.
