YESHIVAH College has announced the appointment of a new head of campus commencing in term four.

Responsible for the daily administrative operations and management of the school, new head Bradley Phillips will also be called upon to enhance the academic standards and achievements of Yeshivah’s general studies program, and develop and implement new education initiatives.

“The breadth and nature of Mr Phillips’ experience demonstrates successful professional performance in senior leadership roles and we are confident that he will make an outstanding contribution to Yeshivah College,” said Don Wolf, chair of the Yeshivah Centre committee of management.

A graduate of the Harvard School of Education, Phillips’ previous roles have included head of middle school at Peninsula College and deputy head of senior school at Wesley College, where he led the implementation and development of the International Baccalaureate program. Phillips also has a masters of educational policy and administration.

“A school in today’s society needs to focus on the development of the individual both academically and as a person in order for [students] to achieve their full potential,” Phillips said. “High expectations of academic rigour are fundamental to the success of the school.”

While not Jewish himself, Phillips said he has a good understanding of the school’s ethos.

“I have a great respect for Jewish learning and the Jewish religion, and understand that values-based Jewish education is fundamental to the school.”

Student discipline and wellbeing will also be a focus of Phillips’ role.

“The development of students who are personally responsible and understand their commitment to contributing to their community is extended through leadership and co-curricular involvement,” he said.

Phillips will work closely with college principal Rabbi Mordechai Berger, as well as with the school’s vice-principal, Juliette Rosen, and director of Jewish studies, Rabbi Pinchas Ash.
