Your legacy, our legacy

A will is more than just your wishes, it's also your legacy. For JCA, it's a gift that gives our community the opportunity to create programs and services for the future

Over the years, many committed JCA donors have ensured that their legacy lives on through a gift to JCA in their will.

It’s a gift that gives our community the opportunity to create programs and services for the future.

JCA’s legacy giving program, Generations, continues to seek support. With 24 member organisations across sectors encompassing Jewish education, community and aged care services, culture, outreach, sport, advocacy, security, and history and Holocaust remembrance, JCA is well placed to direct and manage a gift given to where it is needed most. Gifts can also be directed with instructions if requested.

One member of our community that has committed to JCA’s Generations program is Sharon Milch. For Sharon and her late husband, Leon, their sense of Jewish identity has been central throughout their lives. After Leon’s passing in 2018, Sharon decided to include a bequest in her will from them both to contribute towards strengthening Sydney’s Jewish institutions and community.

“We need to look after our Diaspora at the edge of the world,” Sharon said. “I see what JCA does, and I think that is a well-run institution. It is something admirable that we have in Sydney and everywhere people are aware of it – and a bit jealous of it. So I have decided to make the JCA the beneficiary of my single larger Legacy Gift, and to rely on JCA’s governance and expertise as to how best my legacy will be used. I hope others will do the same.

“I have never been a leader in JCA or the community,” Sharon observed. “The only community work I do is at the Sydney Jewish Museum. But in this particular case, I am hoping that if others see that we have made a bequest that will benefit Jewish institutions in NSW, my hope is that other members of the community will be inspired to do the same. It is only if the Jews of NSW support the community, will all the organisations we take for granted still be viable for our children, grandchildren and future generations.”

To honour past, present and future donors who have made a special commitment of a legacy gift, JCA has established JCA Generations in the hope that people leading by example will inspire others to also consider leaving a bequest to JCA.

Please contact Mark Zworestine, chief financial officer at JCA on 0412 218 918 for a confidential discussion if you’d like to know more. If you’ve already included JCA in your will please email mark@jca.org.au so we can extend our thanks to you and your family.
