Zukerman returns for intimate recitals
Pinchas Zukerman is coming back to Australia, performing in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide for a series of intimate recitals alongside pianist Olga Sitkovetsky.
One of the classical world’s most celebrated violinists is heading back Down Under.
Israeli-American musician Pinchas Zukerman, 77, will perform in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide for a series of intimate recitals alongside pianist Olga Sitkovetsky.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1948 to Holocaust survivor parents, Zukerman began playing the violin at age eight and went on to study at the Juilliard School under the legendary Isaac Stern.
His recording career now stretches to more than 110 albums, and his current season includes performances with the Vienna Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta and at Carnegie Hall led by Lahav Shani.
The programs span Beethoven, Franck, Brahms and Elgar, as well as works by Israeli composer Paul Ben-Haim, in a nod to Zukerman’s Jewish heritage.
He’ll be playing his prized 1742 Guarneri del Gesù, known as the “Dushkin”.
“My violin is the absolutely best instrument in the world for me and the sound is very personal,” he told The AJN. “It is like a glove that fits perfectly.”
Zukerman has performed in Australia many times over the decades and says he’s looking forward to returning.
“The audiences are attentive and love the highest quality of music,” he said, adding that having family here now makes the visit even more special. As for playing alongside Sitkovetsky, Zukerman is enthusiastic.
“Olga and I have worked together on various projects and concerts in Europe for the last dozen years or so,” he said. “She is an artist that understands the value of music on a deep level. It is always a joy to play with her.”
