JIFF SHORT FILM FUND

$10,000 in funding for Australian filmmakers

Applications for the 2024 fund are open on the JIFF website and close on April 1, 2024.

The Jewish International Film Festival (JIFF) has announced the return of its Short Film Fund in 2024. Launched in 2017, the fund was established to provide funding to Australian filmmakers for the completion of a Jewish- themed short film (narrative, documentary or animation).

In 2023, the fund was awarded to local filmmakers Carolyn Saul for her documentary project Mahjong and Mahashas, along- side Stephanie Osztreicher and Chris Bennett for the narrative short Stones.

JIFF artistic director Eddie Tamir said, “We are excited for JIFF to continue to be a cata- lyst for the production of great Australian short films to be shared on the big screen, pro- viding a launching pad for their international recognition.”

This year, a total grant pool of $10,000 is available for the production of two short f ilms incorporating a Jewish theme, character or story arc. JIFF is seeking treatments and scripts for films under 10 minutes that are universally engaging and enter- taining, and able to resonate with audiences from all backgrounds. The entries are open to all film- makers who are Australian resi- dents.

Applications for the 2024 fund are open on the JIFF website and close on April 1, 2024. The allocation of funding will be announced by mid-April 2024, and will be determined by a panel of experienced industry judges. JIFF expects the films to be ready for exhibition at JIFF 2024.
