The US Consul-General in Sydney, Christine Elder, was welcomed as the keynote speaker at Bondi meal-based charity Our Big Kitchen, by co-founders Rabbi Dovid Slavin and Laya Slavin, on September 11 for its 2023 9/11 tragedy remembrance ceremony.

More than 50 people attended the 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Our Big Kitchen.

More than 50 people attended the moving ceremony, where a minute’s silence was observed to reflect upon the thousands of innocent lives that were lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda in a single day 22 years ago in America.

Following the ceremony, as a way of bringing an element of positivity, hope, and light – in a practical way – to an otherwise sombre and painful day for so many, attendees put on aprons and headed to the kitchen together to prepare meals that will be distributed to many local charities.

Participants and special guests included Davidson MP Matt Cross, NSW Legislative Council member Jacqui Munro, Hornsby mayor Philip Ruddock, Waverley Council mayor Paula Masselos and Cr Tony Kay, and personnel from NSW Police, Ambulance NSW, and Fire & Rescue NSW.

Attendees volunteer in meal preparation following the ceremony.
