Kadimah parlour gig

A bisel of joy direct to your living rooms

Join comedian and writer Justine Sless at the next Kadimah Parlour Gig.

One of Justine Sless’s favourite parts of performing is when a joke lands, the roar of laughter permeates the room, and she knows that she has connected with the audience. While her next gig may be over zoom, she has faith the connection will still be there.

The comedian, writer, and former Melbourne Jewish Comedy Festival creative director will be joining Kadimah for a parlour gig, direct from her living room to yours.

Despite her very serious day job in local government in planning and social policy, Sless loves nothing more than making people laugh, describing it as “the pure pleasure of being authentic and sharing moments that I have found funny or poignant that have a universal appeal”.

With Yiddish-tinged comedy hour The Kvetcher in the Rye, she says you can expect poetry, pith and pathos with a hilarious twist at the end, as she turns into game show host Jewstien Shlep, challenging audiences through So You Think You Can Kvetch.

“The show will be intimate as it will be irreverent,” she said. “My pursuit of the perfect punchline is relentless as is my desire to give voice to the often voiceless by teaching comedy as a health and wellbeing tool,” she finished, before describing the show as a “bisel of joy”.

The Kvetcher in the Rye is taking place on Sunday October 24 at 5:30pm. To book: kadimah.org.au/event/yiddish-parlour-with-justine-sless-the-kvetcher-in-the-rye/
