US singer and actor Meat Loaf died last week, aged 74. Born Marvin Lee Aday, Meat Loaf was behind the iconic hit I’d Do Anything for Love and had a remarkable music career that spanned decades, selling millions of records worldwide.

While no cause of death has been confirmed, Meat Loaf was reportedly diagnosed with COVID-19 shortly before his death and his condition quickly became critical. Sources say Meat Loaf has been outspoken about COVID, taking a strong stance against pandemic restrictions including lockdowns, vaccine mandates and masks.

“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side. Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours,” a statement by the family said. “His amazing career spanned six decades that saw him sell over 100 million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including Fight Club, Focus, Rocky Horror Picture Show and Wayne’s World. Bat Out of Hell remains one of the top ten selling albums of all time.”

“We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man. We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time. From his heart to your souls… don’t ever stop rocking!”

Meat Loaf’s Jewish son-in-law, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, paid tribute to his father-in-law, thanking everyone for the outpouring of love.

“There are so many stories to tell, and I know they will all be told over time. For now, what I know is that Meat’s legacy will live on through his family – Pearl, Amanda and Revel. Their forever love for their father/grandfather (Papa Meat) outweighs the heaviness of their hearts,” he wrote on Instagram.

Ian has previously described Meat Loaf as any other father-in-law, recalling in an interview that they had dinner together and all they discussed was fantasy football. “He’s just a regular guy who happens to be a legendary rock star,” he said.

Social media has been flooded with memories and tributes to the iconic star, with even the Queen’s Guard paying tribute.

His wife, Deborah has described her grief to People magazine as gut-wrenching, saying her sadness is beyond words.

“He meant so much to so many people, and it gave me joy to be able to share him with the world,” she said. “As much as my heart is in pain right now, my heart is also so full of the love and glory we shared together. I will love you forever, Michael.”
