A night for the stalwarts

IF you will it, it is no dream.” Theodor Herzl’s famous phrase echoed through Beth Weizmann Community Centre last Tuesday as the Zionist Council of Victoria (ZCV) honoured three community stalwarts for their tireless efforts to transform their visions into reality.

Though the stage at the ZCV’s annual assembly was packed with senior state and federal politicians, the real stars of the night were Leon Kempler, chairman of the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce (AICC), Ros Collins, former director of the Makor library, and Dr Danny Lamm, the council’s outgoing president.

Among the high profile guests joining the delegates and dignitaries at the gathering were Israeli Ambassador Yuval Rotem, Minister for Home Affairs Brendan O’Connor, Shadow Minister for Education Christopher Pyne, and Victorian Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs James Merlino.
