A ‘warm’ connection

"Many brave Iranians came. It was warm, we had a good connection with them, and it was a very good event," says Avi Efrat.

Members of the Jewish community joined the Iranian community last Sunday to protest the regime in Tehran, in a show of solidarity between the two communities.

What began as a small gathering in Hyde Park quickly grew into a crowd of around 400 people, with Avi Efrat from Together For Israel – the group that helped organise the event – describing a warm connection between the two communities.

“Some Iranians were scared to come because there are people who supply information to Iran that they are against the Iranian regime,” Efrat told The AJN.

“But many brave Iranians came. It was warm, we had a good connection with them, and it was a very good event.”

Efrat said many of the Iranians will also attend this Sunday’s rally for Christian Australians who wish to stand in solidarity with their Jewish friends. The inspiration draws from similar rallies that took place in the UK and US under the title: Antisemitism – Never Again is Now.

“Never Again is Now” is a growing global movement of Christians standing against antisemitism.

Sunday’s rally will take place in Sydney and will move to Adelaide on March 3, followed by similar events in both Melbourne and Brisbane with those dates still to be confirmed.
