Caulfield Shule is launching its adult bar/bat mitzvah program in November.

The inaugural course will consist of six sessions delivered by local Jewish thinkers, exploring the topics of the Jewish calendar, Jewish history, Jewish life cycles, Jewish law and Jewish mysticism.

The course includes “Around the Year in 90 minutes”, a journey through the Jewish calendar with Rabbi Ronnie Figdor; “Back to the Future”, 3300 years of Jewish history with Bev Sacho; “GPS for the Soul”, an exploration of the mystical and the spiritual concepts of Judaism with Chana Serebransky; “From Moses to Macbooks”, the evolution of Jewish law from Sinai to the modern-day era with Chaya Herszberg; “Meaningful milestones and understanding the Jewish lifecycle from birth to earth” with Rabbi Daniel Rabin; and “Bringing it Home”, a special challah bake session filled with insights and inspiration with Rebbetzin Sarah Rabin.

Rabbi Rabin of Caulfield Shule told The AJN that he was excited about this new initiative and looks forward to hosting more courses in the future.

He explained the idea came from the mother of a bar mitzvah boy who told the rabbi they wished they could do the things their children were doing in the barmi program.

“I was really inspired by her words and designed this course to give participants a great overview of all things Jewish,” he said.

“Participants and their families will also be invited to shule after the course to share some of their learning with the community”.
