THE Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS) has responded to Israeli Apartheid Week by displaying more than 3000 posters at university campuses across Australian and New Zealand. AUJS president Daniel Nash said the posters have been well received.

“We had two goals – to support Israel advocacy and to give Jewish students a shot in the arm on campus and we believe that we have achieved both aims,” Nash said.

“The feedback we have received is that there was a real sense of excitement from the Jewish students that something was being done to combat Israel Apartheid Week and also to support Israel.”

The posters feature famous quotes from Martin Luther King Junior, who said that Israel is one of the world’s greatest outposts of democracy, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who said he would never recognise Israel as a Jewish State, Dana International, who won the Eurovision song contest for Israel and is transgender but welcomed in the country, and poet Nathan Alterman, who noted that Israel’s democracy has allowed a communist Arab to become an MK.
