AS an organisation led by students for students, the Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS) provides meaningful experiences and initiatives to students across Australia and New Zealand.

AUJS fundraising coordinator for 2022 Leor Simovich said, “We continue to facilitate high-quality leadership programs, political and social events, and provide students with unparalleled access to inspirational and diverse figures in our community, and beyond.

“We are training the future leaders of our community and equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to stand up for Israel on campus and transform society in a positive, lasting way.”

Sadly, this year’s campus life has been rife with antisemitism, with numerous student unions passing blatantly antisemitic motions.

Despite the challenges, Simovich said AUJS has continued to act as a platform to bring Jewish students together, “to connect and celebrate their Jewish identity and join the fight against antisemitism”.

“In addition, AUJS ensures that Jewish students are supported and have ways to report incidents,” Simovich said.

“By building relationships with university leaders and representatives, and through nuanced conversation, we have seen AUJS becoming more and more recognised as the representative of Jewish students at university.

“Now, more than ever, our community needs to reflect on the importance of fighting antisemitism and keeping university spaces safe for Jewish students in Australia and New Zealand.

“During these anxiety-provoking times, it is vital for Jewish youth to feel supported and empowered.”

On September 20 and 21, AUJS is holding its annual appeal. All donations above $2 are tax deductible. To donate visit aujs.com.au/appeal
