After a difficult two years during the pandemic, the Australian and New Zealand Chabad communities joined together earlier this month to write and dedicate a collaborative unity Sefer Torah.

The Torah initiative was inspired by a miracle Torah that was written in the times of the Baal Shem Tov following an outbreak of a virus in the city. Following the Baal Shem Tov’s instructions to create a unity Torah, the community began to heal as the Torah was written.

Sunday, December 12 marked the completion of the Torah, celebrated by the community through a very special Siyum Sefer Torah in Melbourne.

Attendees enjoyed live music, dancing, entertainment, jumping castles and refreshments at the Chabad youth centre. “The Torah is the unifier of all Jewish people, it is bigger than any single individual yet belongs to every individual,” said Rabbi Moshe Kahn, organiser of the initiative, who is welcoming all Jews to dedicate a letter to the unity Torah scroll.
