Australian Jewish leaders to come together for ZFA plenary
Representation at Plenary will include Zionist Councils in every state, ZFA affiliates and partners, as well as AUJS and Zionist youth movements
More than 150 Jewish community leaders from across Australia will gather in Sydney at the Zionist Federation of Australia’s (ZFA’s) Plenary conference this Sunday, September 14.
The representation at Plenary will include Zionist Councils in every state, ZFA affiliates and partners, as well as the Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS) and Zionist youth movements.
The theme of this year’s Plenary conference is “Zionism, Unbroken”.
Addresses will be given by Minister for Health Mark Butler, Shadow Attorney-General Julian Leeser, and former Israeli Government Minister and distinguished military leader, Yoaz Hendel.
ZFA president Jeremy Leibler will deliver a keynote address about the challenges the Australian Jewish community has faced over the last two years, and its resolute commitment not to be defined by our enemies, but by our bond with each other and with Israel, and undeniable contribution to Australia.
The conference will also feature a design lab with acclaimed presidential historian and Zionist activist, Professor Gil Troy, focusing on shaping Zionism’s mission for 2025 and beyond.
A panel discussion, moderated by Project A co-founder, Lillian Kline, will centre on “Zionism in action” featuring Yoaz Hendel, survivor of the Nova Festival Natalie Sanandaji, Zionism Victoria president Elyse Schachna, and AUJS advocacy co-ordinator Liat Granot.
“The conference is not just about refusing grievances and choosing a Zionist purpose,” Leibler said. “It’s about turning that purpose into practice; interrogating and renewing Zionism together; drafting a shared mission, and leaving the event with commitments that strengthen our pillars of representation, advocacy and connection.”
ZFA CEO Alon Cassuto added, “The ZFA is building an organisation with its finger on the pulse of the community, and our Plenary conference is an important pillar to platform individuals, organisations, and communities working hard to build Jewish identity and strengthen our bond with Israel.”
