Barry’s our ‘blessed’ Premier

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell declared himself the “blessed” Premier at this year’s NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (JBOD) and Yeshiva Chanukah function at Parliament House on Tuesday night.

O’Farrell, Opposition Leader John Robertson, Yeshiva spiritual leader Rabbi Pinchus Feldman (pictured) and JBOD president Yair Miller addressed more than 100 politicians and communal leaders at the pre-Chanukah event.

But it was the Premier who stole the show.

“The first word you will hear when the menorah is lit is baruch,” O’Farrell said, referring to the prayers.

“In Hebrew, baruch of course means blessed, and baruch, I’m pleased to say, is Hebrew for the name Barry. Baruch has a wonderful ring to it because it means that I’m blessed.”
