B’nai B’rith announces art competition winners
Mazal tov to all who participated.
This year the 27th Annual Jewish Youth Art Competition displayed a total of 220 artworks, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, mixed media, and photography, filling the Gallery of the Glen Eira Town Hall. The quality of the artworks delivered surpassed even the judges’ expectations.
Glen Eira Mayor, Cr Jim Magee, officially opened the exhibition at a ceremony on Sunday, 24th July. A crowd of over 150 packed the Gallery. Other dignitaries included David Southwick MP and Dr Benny Monheit, President-elect of B’nai B’rith Australia and New Zealand.
The Art Competition received 66 entries from Leibler Yavneh, 40 from Beth Rivkah, 37 from Bialik, 34 from Mt Scopus, 25 from King David, and 13 from state and independent schools. For the second year in a row, Beth Rivkah student Chana Pesha Faigenbaum took the Morrie Gold Memorial Prize for the overall winner with her magnificent portrait of her mother.
This year saw the inclusion of a new initiative in memory of Yossi Skurnik. The Yossi Skurnik Art Initiative awarded the best landscape painting or drawing over three age categories. Yossi was an artist, musician, and poet, perhaps a visionary, with ideas and concepts beyond his time.
B’nai B’rith would like to extend a huge mazal tov to all the winners. Be prepared to be blown away if you haven’t seen the exhibition. The exhibition is open to the public from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm on weekdays and 1:00 till 5:00 on weekends, and it runs until Sunday 7th August.
