B’nai B’rith Jewish Youth Art Competition winners

Now in its 28th year, B’nai B’rith is once gaining running its annual Jewish Youth Art Competition.

The competition exhibition is at the Glen Eira Gallery until July 2.

A representative from B’nai B’rith explained that the competition aims to promote artistic competence and a sense of unity among the Jewish community’s youth.

This year a total of 225 artworks are displayed, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, mixed media, photography and video/animation.

The exhibition features artworks by 169 students aged between 11 and 18, from 25 schools around Melbourne.

Mayor of Glen Eira City Council, Cr Jim Magee, officially opened the exhibition at a ceremony on June 18.

Thirty-four prizes were awarded at this year’s competition.

Beth Rivkah Ladies College students were especially well-represented; with 14 students from the school receiving an award.

There were seven Leibler Yavneh College student winners, five from Bialik, three from Yeshivah College and two from Mount Scopus Memorial College.

There were three winners at non-Jewish schools with one student from Bentleigh Secondary College, Glen Eira College and Prahran High School being awarded.

In addition to age and category prizes, several memorial prizes were also awarded including The Morrie Gold Memorial Prize for the overall winner which was awarded to Jesse Onas.

The 2023 Thalia Hakin Memorial Prize sponsored by the Gandel Foundation was awarded to Eli Nagel.

The B’nai B’rith representative congratulated the winners as well as all the other students whose artwork is now on display in the gallery. The exhibition closes on Sunday, July 2.
