Bondi responder Rabbi Yanky Super meets King Charles

Nitzutz co-director Rabbi Yanky Super met King Charles III on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda this week.

Super, a Hatzolah volunteer first responder who was shot at the Bondi Chanukah celebration, travelled to the summit to represent the Australian Jewish community and Jewish communities across the Commonwealth.

He attended with his brother, Rabbi Avromy Super, who serves as rabbi to the Eastern Caribbean.

During the week, Super met Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and introduced him to his brother, who spoke with Albanese about his work across the Caribbean.

Super also met Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis, UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, Solomon Islands Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Rick Houenipwela, and Fiji’s head of delegation to CHOGM, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, who is special envoy to Fiji’s prime minister.

According to Nitzutz, Super discussed antisemitism and building stronger relationships with other Commonwealth countries during his meetings.

CHOGM 2026 was held in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, from November 1 to 4, under the theme “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth”. It brought together leaders of the Commonwealth’s 56 member nations.

On December 14, 2025, Super was on medical standby at the Bondi Chanukah celebration when he was shot at his post near the entrance. As he fell, he radioed for help on his Hatzolah radio, alerting other first responders.

Since the attack, he has advocated for social inclusion and against antisemitism, and has worked with state and federal governments to prevent a similar attack.

Raised in Melbourne, Super studied at the Rabbinical College of Australia and at the Rabbinical College of America in Morristown, New Jersey. He is a lead volunteer and coordinator with Hatzolah.

Nitzutz is a Jewish community charity based in Double Bay.
