TWO stars of klezmer music and comedy will headline a post-Purim show at Central Shule on March 9, along with talented chazanim Shimon and Yehuda, in what will be a night not be missed.

Laughter will flow when Austen Tayshus (Sandy Gutman) takes to the stage. He has been working as a stand-up comedian in Australia for 40 years.

In 1983 he released Australiana – a spoken word comedy routine which was the number-one single in Australia in 1983 for eight weeks – and in 1998 he won best film and best actor awards at the Tropfest short film festival.

Last year, his documentary Skin in the Game was released, which tells the story of his career, travelling across our great continent.

Each show he performs is unique, and nothing is off limits.

The evening will also feature music by Chutney – a klezmer band with a twist.

Drawing on their Eastern European and Middle Eastern heritage, Chutney present a mix of original compositions and their own modern arrangements of traditional dance tunes.

The musicians’ on-stage chemistry is electric, as they traverse styles from jazz to tango, folk to rock, classical to funk and east to west.

The talent and uniqueness of both of these performers – Austen Tayshus and Chutney – have captivated audiences everywhere.

The show at Central Synagogue on March 9, commencing at 7.30pm, is sure to be an unforgettable evening of entertainment.
