Posters defaced in Melbourne

Calls for ‘intifada’ in Sydney

“Anyone who rips down posters calling for hostages to be returned shows how little humanity they have,” says Macnamara MP Josh Burns.

Disruptive pro-Palestinian protests across Sydney and Melbourne were held on Monday, with protesters calling for intifada in Sydney, while in Melbourne children took part in the demonstrations.

Demonstrators plunged parts of Melbourne into chaos by disrupting traffic.

Zionist Federation of Australia CEO Alon Cassuto said Australians don’t appreciate having their daily lives disrupted by radical protesters, especially when it adds more pressure to the rising cost of living.

“The fact that Victoria Police had to send such large numbers of personnel to handle [the] events shows us the true intent of these protesters. They do not want peace, they want chaos.”

Meanwhile, protesters outside Sydney’s Town Hall chanted, “There is only one solution, intifada, revolution.”

Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Peter Wertheim said euphemisms for the mass slaughter of Jews should not be allowed anywhere in our society.

“The fact that these calls are now routinely made, and pass without comment, speaks volumes about the failures of our political leaders, the inexplicable constraints placed on our law enforcement agencies, and the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of so many of our academic and cultural institutions,” he said.

Capping off the day of hate, posters depicting the hostages held by Hamas were defaced on Monday night, just two days after being erected in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda.

Macnamara MP Josh Burns said, “Anyone who rips down posters calling for hostages to be returned shows how little humanity they have.”

Caulfield MP David Southwick said, “With antisemitism nearing its worst levels in our country’s history, this is yet another attempt to silence, harass and intimidate our Jewish community. With this act, the anti-Israel movement have again outed themselves as bigots.”

Zionism Victoria executive director Zeddy Lawrence said, “This deeply distressing act of graffiti – daubing over the faces of innocent civilians who have been held hostage for almost 200 days – betrays a complete lack of humanity on the part of the perpetrators.

“Targeting a memorial established by members of the Jewish community does nothing to advance the cause of peace and only serves to fuel tensions, further undermining the multiculturalism that Victoria is supposed to pride itself on,” he said.
