The North Shore Synagogue, together with the Israel Institute of Sydney, presented a fascinating afternoon of Kosher Korean cuisine on Sunday, March 27.

Pastor Paul Jung and other members of Sydney’s Korean community explained how to make kimchi and kimbap (Korean sushi with meat).

Korean chefs described the art of making traditional delicacies and, with the assistance of Rabbi Paul Lewin of the North Shore Synagogue, explained how to make them kosher-style, including the substitution of some ingredients for those not permitted in kashrut.

“Sharing food is a bridge between cultures and a means to build meaningful friendships,” said Rabbi Lewin.

“This event was the fruit of such a friendship, and we look forward to finding new ways to engage and involve the communities. In a time of tension, it’s so refreshing to be able to meet new people.”
