To mark Yom Hashoah the Melbourne Holocaust Museum (MHM) and the Museum of Inherited Memories (MIM) are partnering for an evening of music and conversation exploring how a new generation can inherit the testimonies of witnesses to continue the legacy of memorial.

MIM founder and co-curator of the event, Siân Darling, said, “We are one of the last generations to hear testimony directly from Holocaust survivors. We have been listening for as long as our survivors have been ready to share, so it’s crucial to investigate how to be responsible with this legacy.”

The event will feature a panel of guests including acclaimed musician Lior, author Bram Presser, musician Emily Lubitz, student/poet Ezra Lubitz and speaker and podcast host Sarah Grynberg.

“Within us, we carry the living testimony of the Holocaust survivors – a powerful reminder of the consequences of hatred and intolerance,” Grynberg said, adding, “We must honour their memory by speaking out against injustice and working towards a world where such horrors can never be repeated.”

MHM CEO Jayne Josem sees this event as an opportunity to “engage the next generation in an important conversation about our collective responsibility to keep survivors’ voices alive and better understand the variety of mediums in which practitioners and artists are achieving this today”.

The event will be held at the newly-redeveloped MHM building in Elsternwick from 7- 9pm on April 18. Tickets can be purchased from MHM website: mhm.org.au/events
