Deb dives into new sport

Australian aerobic gymnastics senior team member, Sydney’s Deborah Greenbaum, has decided to take this year off from the sport in order to focus on completing an internship – however, as someone who can’t stay still, she has taken up diving in the interim.

After only six practice sessions, she qualified first at the NSW Diving Championships, in her age division, for the Diving Australia Age Championships, held in Homebush in mid-April.

Greenbaum had a great time meeting new people and taking part in a new sport, and her only goal at the championships was not to come last in her individual and synchronised events, which she achieved.

“Everyone was very helpful,” she said.

“Gymnastics has given me the background I needed in rotation and twisting in diving, so all I have had to do is work on my entry into the water.

“Most of the time all is well, although occasionally I forget, and try to get my feet under me, and then it’s not a pretty sight.”
