Co-president of the Melbourne Holocaust Museum Sue Hampel has been reappointed as a member of the national archives of Australia advisory council.

She will continue in the role for a term of three years, and said she is “delighted and honoured” to be reappointed.

Hampel also serves on the Australian delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) as an expert in Holocaust education.

“I have had a long interest in history, particularly that of the Holocaust and I believe in the importance of safeguarding the historical record of the Holocaust,” Hampel said.

As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, her work focuses on the importance of memory and its transmission to future generations, in the hope and aim of ensuring that no race or people ever have to endure what the Jewish people did during the Holocaust.

She added, “I am keen to see that all historical archives are available to researchers – not just scholars and students – but the broad range of educators, journalists, genealogists, jurists and members of the public.”
