Dirty Dancing going back to the Catskills

When news was announced that a Dirty Dancing sequel would soon be gracing our screens, fans went wild with questions. One very big one? Would the cast, which stars Jennifer Grey reprising her role, go back to the Catskills?

Grey, who has signed on as executive producer, said Baby will indeed be returning to the Catskills and the famous resort at the centre of the original movie, Kellermans. But this time it will be set in the 1990s. Grey also disclosed that the film will not try to recreate the chemistry between her and Patrick Swayze, despite rumours that there was tension between the pair as Swayze, who was a trained dancer, would get easily frustrated with Grey as she tried to learn the steps.

What’s yet to be seen is how the Catskills, which have dramatically changed since the 1960s when the film was originally set, will be incorporated into the story, especially as the Borscht Belt began to lose its lustre back in the 1970s.

Regardless of the storyline, here’s hoping Baby pulls on her dancing shoes and bops back onto the dance floor.
