SPECIALIST general practitioner Dr Daniel Lichtblau is set to finish up working at Ormond Medical Centre and base himself in Malvern full time from the start of 2024.
“It’s been a true privilege to get to know and care for my many wonderful patients in Ormond,” says Dr Lichtblau.
“To see the community and the area grow and thrive, and to be able to support my patients’ life journeys through this time including through some of the more challenging recent events has been an honour.”
Dr Lichtblau has been consulting part time in Malvern for the past 12 months, and is focused on ensuring that his consulting schedule can make it possible to provide consistent, compassionate care for his patients.
“A lot of GPs work part time these days, or in different locations. I absolutely love what I do and I’m absolutely passionate about ensuring that patients have access to appointments with me when they need it. I hope that it will be a lot easier for my patients when I’m in the one place.”
Dr Lichtblau’s consultation schedule will be concentrated at The Emeline in Malvern, a multidisciplinary medical hub with doctors, psychologists, on-site pathology for blood tests, podiatrist and dietitian. Cabrini Hospital and Alfred Hospital are both a stone’s throw away, and the area has been growing to offer an extensive range of specialist and allied health services.
“Malvern has grown into this incredible health hub, with a fantastic array of wonderful non-GP specialist doctors, allied health practitioners and hospital services in the area. I’m a long way from retirement age and I’m moving across to make sure that my patients have access to excellent healthcare facilities, good value, and choice of healthcare professionals.”
Dr Lichtblau is proud of the care he has been able to provide his patients at Ormond, reflecting on some of the more recent challenges, but remains focused on the future and on patient outcomes.
“My dad started Ormond Medical Centre 40 years ago. The focus has been all about knowing your patients, knowing the community, supporting each other. We’ve had our lows too – with the fire that gutted the clinic in 2012 when I was a student, leaving everybody working out of a portable during rebuilding. And consistently looking like Phantom of the Opera to our patients since COVID to ensure we can keep each other safe with PPE.
“It’s a really humbling experience to be able to provide care to patients. I’m so lucky to have such wonderful patients, grateful to the team at Ormond for the support they’ve given me over the years, and look forward to dedicating myself to my work at Malvern.”
