Sky News host Sharri Markson will address the rising hatred towards Jews when she sits down with Opposition Leader Peter Dutton next month at an event that forms part JCA’s 2024 campaign.

Markson is hosting a behind-the-scenes conversation with the federal Liberal leader about fighting antisemitism, plus the apparent media bias, a failure of leadership in Australia and the university activism.

Dutton has been consistent in his support for Israel and Australia’s Jewish community, while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Labor government have been accused of abandoning Israel and not doing enough to speak out against antisemitism.

Markson said the Jewish community must continue to stand up against the hate and she is looking forward to discussing how Dutton would tackle antisemitism if he was prime minister.

“It’s been an emotional few months for all of us in the Jewish community,” Markson told The AJN.

“It never ceases to amaze me that the shocking rise in antisemitism started right after Israel was brutally attacked. Compounding this has been attitude by the Albanese government to Israel, along with the bias shown by the United Nations and The Hague. Instead of feeling helpless, I think we need to show strength and stand up for our right as a community not to face abuse or harassment.

“Bringing Peter Dutton into the conversation is important. As the alternative prime minister, it’s crucial to find out how he’d tackle the hatred towards Jews if he were elected. This will be one of the areas I’ll ask him about on the afternoon of June 2 at the JCA event.”

Following Markson’s conversation with Dutton, there will be a panel discussion between Sky News hosts Caroline Marcus, Chris Kenny and former Australia ambassador to Israel Dave Sharma.

All proceeds will be donated to JCA for communal security and advocacy.
