Fashion Forward celebrates five years

“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created,” said Nicole Katz, co-founder of Fashion Forward, “transforming a small project to repurpose unwanted and unworn clothes into a powerful initiative that reduces landfill waste and supports women and children in crisis.”

Founded in 2020 by Katz and Sharon Aaron, Fashion Forward finds new homes for designer wear while raising funds for Jewish House, with 100 per cent of proceeds supporting women and children from all walks of life, regardless of religion, culture or background.

“It’s hard to believe that Fashion Forward has been around for five years, and I am so humbled that we have made such a tangible impact in the preloved and homelessness space using resources that are already there. It started out as a one off super fun project, collecting and selling donated preloved designer clothing and accessories at ridiculous prices. It has turned into a community now that brings in over $200,000 annually with minimal expenses,” Aaron said.

All funds raised through Fashion Forward go directly to the safe house in Sydney’s eastern suburbs – a 52-room refuge offering shelter to women and children in crisis. Beyond accommodation, residents receive nourishing meals, clothing, mental health care, and access to a beautiful garden and playroom for children.

“Through our efforts, 1306 women and children have found safety, shelter and hope when they had nowhere else to go,” Katz said.

“We are Women supporting Women – helping restore dignity, hope and strength to those facing life’s toughest moments.”

Fashion Forward recently held an event in Sydney to mark five years of impact.

“Every tap of the credit card, in-store or online, goes directly to charity,” Katz said.

“Where else do you get and give at the same time? It’s truly unique, and we’re so grateful for the amazing support and loyal customers who keep coming back for this one-of-a-kind, feel-good shopping experience.”

Aaron said the direct impact Fashion Forward has on women and children in crisis is tangible.

“To be able to see, in real time, where every dollar from Fashion Forward goes is a big part of our ethos,” she said.

“Every item sold changes someone’s life in a way that we could never have imagined before.”

Since inception, Fashion Forward has saved 18,905 items of clothing from landfill and raised $841,399 for those in crisis. At their anniversary celebration, the organisation announced an ambitious goal to reach $1 million before the end of the financial year.
