Feast of reading that clicks
With the Lamm Jewish Library temporarily closed due to COVID-19, staff have been developing alternative procedures so the community can continue to access the library’s content.
REINTRODUCING its services to the community during the COVID-19 closures, the Lamm Jewish Library of Australia has launched a click-and-collect borrowing scheme for its books and DVDs that enables readers to order their favourite titles online and then collect them from the Beth Weizmann Jewish Community Centre.
The library is temporarily closed to the public during the pandemic, but staff have been developing alternative procedures so the Jewish community can continue to access the library’s content, director Lauren Joffe announced. She said the click-and-collect service complies with health and safety measures.
“The staff and I look forward to reopening our doors to our community and so far this new initiative has worked splendidly,” she reported, adding that it is designed to “provide resources to help those who are not able to access ebooks and are missing reading”.
The click-and-collect service enables library members to browse the online catalogue, select items and email the library. The library contacts members when their items are ready, and they can then collect them from Beth Weizmann reception during designated times.
To ensure that materials are safe to borrow, all returned items are quarantined and sanitised before being returned to circulation.
In addition, the Lamm Library has enabled people to borrow ebooks and movies online. To do so, people need to contact the library by email so a barcode number and password can be allocated to enable members to access these items.
