AHRON SHAPIRO

Hi,

I’m Ahron Shapiro and I’m the International News editor for the Australian Jewish News. I am a New Yorker and Jerusalemite and have been living in Melbourne for the past year. It is my job to wade through the stories of the week and make sure that you, the readers of the AJN, have the chance to become informed with the most essential topics involving Israel and world Jewry every week that you receive the paper.

A little about me: I am a former world news editor of the Jerusalem Post, and I believe I have a solid grasp of the issues facing Israel and the Jewish world from all angles and perspectives.

As such, whenever I feel that my news sources do not adequately explain a story, I try to provide an objective analysis that will give you an additional level of understanding of the story.

My goal is to be objective, and here on my blog on the AJN web site I invite the readers to question each analysis I make and the conclusions I reach. I may not respond to all of you. Whether I respond may well depend on my free time, your tone, and the merits of your queries and comments.

At the times I do respond, it will not be in the “comments” section of the article, but here in the blog.

At any rate, I do encourage people to ask me questions if they feel a story or analysis has left them with unanswered questions.

My goal is to raise the level of fluency in these issues in our community.

A lot of our readers are passionate about their views, either left-wing, right-wing or centre. That’s fine, but bear in mind if you choose to attempt to engage with me: I’m not out to argue with people or be argued with. I’m simply trying to be as objective as possible in how I present information to AJN readers.

I look forward to developing a dialogue with our readers on the issues of the day, taking advantage of AJN‘s new, exciting and dynamic web site.
